Diving at Tremiti Islands

The Tremiti Islands have been a marine reserve since 1989 and give visitors a still intact and fascinating environment. It is a favorite destination for many divers, there are plenty of popular dive sites suitable for every level of experience, more than 40 of them all around the archipelago. For divers, the Marine Reserve of the Tremiti Island is an enchanted place, almost a gathering point for all marine life that inhabit the sea bottoms of the Mediterranean sea, since in certain times and periods it seems that all possible and imaginable sea creatures meet here with the only purpose of delivering a thrilling spectacle.

Snorkeling in the MARINE PARK

The archipelago of the Tremiti Islands is located a few miles from the coast of the Gargano and its islands are the only ones belonging to Italy in the Adriatic Sea.

The archipelago of Tremiti consists of 5 islands that are ideal for snorkelers:

  • San Nicola, the administrative center where the citizens of the archipelago reside.

  • San Domino, the largest and most touristic island, where are located the main tourist facilities and entertainment centers.

  • Caprara, completely uninhabited.

  • Pianosa, also completely uninhabited and also the most isolated since it is about 20 km from the archipelago away.

  • Cretaccio, a large clayey rock that rises between the islands of San Nicola and San Domino.

Unlike scuba diving, snorkeling activity can be practiced by anyone: it consists of swimming at the surface (maximum 5 meters deep) using a diving mask and a snorkel to breathe, so that you can fully enjoy the wonderful show that the seabeds offer.

Among fishes: Mediterranean red damselfish, seahorse, grouper, damsel, monkfish, banded bream, redfish, red mullet.

Among algae: acetabularia codium adhaerens, dictyota dichotoma, halimeda tuna, padina pavonia, sea ball; oceanic Posidonia, pseudolithophyllum, expansum.

Among invertebrates: lobster, sea anemone, false coral, sea lily, spider crab, Mediterranean haliclona, hand of St. Peter, sea umbrella, octopus, sea urchin, cuttlefish, starfish and many others ...

As a certified scuba diver you’ve already experienced the thrill of exploring parts of the underwater world, but know there’s more to discover. Whether you’re looking for new dive adventures, to improve your scuba skills, or both at once, taking another PADI dive course will help you gain more confidence and meet more dive buddies.

Technical Diving allows you to extend your diving beyond recreational “no stop” limits. This allows you to plan longer dives at shallower depths, or to plan dives to more advanced depths and locations. Technical (tec) diving allows you to greatly expand your diving skills and knowledge and can provide you with experiences and exploration opportunities in places very few people will ever see.
